If you were to look at Guy, the remarkable thing that would jump out at you is that he is totally unremarkable. Having very plain and uninteresting features, he attracts very little attention. This has caused problems in his career, since he works part-time as a window display. However, his true dream is to become a full-time superhero. This goal presents many obstacles, as he is only four feet tall, was originally made out of clay, and he speaks in nonsequitors and general nonsense, which makes communication with people difficult.

Guy lives alone in a small, box-like apartment, which is strictly candlelit, since he is deathly afraid of light bulbs. He has no friends or relatives, save for his dear sidekick Gnat, who buzzes around his head at all times. Guy fills his days going to his job, attempting good deeds to further his career, and indulging in his obsession, which is collecting orange highway cones. (He has amassed quite a large collection, and he is probably having an adverse affect on the city's municipal budget, in addition to causing several traffic accidents.) Guy has a secret love for writing poetry, but because of his difficulty with language, his poems don't really make any sense. (What guy doesn't realize, however, is that this has never been a hindrance for poets before.) As for his superhero career, he has not had much luck in this area. He seems to have a hard time finding people in trouble, or locating an evil mastermind to defeat. (Even his nemesis almost always misses him by a few minutes.) Because of this, he has limited himself to performing small good works, such as putting change in expired parking meters so people won't get a ticket. Guy's mission to "do good" in this world is aided by his chosen weapon, a stick that he found on the ground.

Gnat is more than just an individual insect. Gnat is a lineage. Living for only three days, Gnat spends any free time that he has away from Guy (normally when Guy is sleeping) creating a family, and training one of his offspring to replace him after he dies. For eight hundred or so generations, the Gnat family has been responsible for following Guy around. He doesn't seem to mind, and actually regards Gnat as a close and important friend. However, Guy believes that his sidekick has always been the same insect. It's not surprising, however, since the next Gnat almost always resembles his predecessor down to the last detail.

When Gnat is not with his partner or training his offspring, he likes to enjoy a rare break listening to the only band that the entire Gnat lineage has enjoyed: The Pixies.

The Gnat family has played the role of Guy's guardian for seven years. (Guy is ten.)

Currently, the Gnat who serves as Guy's sidekick is Gnat the 851st. (Give or take a few.)
